The "TOR" (teleprinter over radio) gives 24 hour service regardless of the presence of an operator since the equipment starts up automatically from its standby mode when called. The equipment works on an error detection and correction principle, thus virtually eliminating errors. Traffic is passed quickly and under normal conditions, virtually instant access is obtained. The "TOR" equipment interfaces a teleprinter to the ships main transmitter and receiver. The article discusses the operations of "TOR", broadcasting, receiving in port, and second generation "TOR', including the "MICROTOR". Order from NSFI as No. 16719.
