The advantages of a preventive maintenance program and the cost benefits available to the container owner, user and maintenance contractor are reviewed. The experience of a major container lessor is discussed. A typical program would consist of the following steps: scope, timing, maintenance criteria, locations, quality control, and tracking and cost control. Cost comparison is made between preventive maintenance and refurbishing over a 12 year life for steel 20 ft containers. Order from NSFI as No. 16703.
