PREDICTING THE LONGITUDINAL STRESSES INDUCED ON A LARGE OIL TANKER IN SEA WAVES

In short- and long-term seaways, the total normal stress and the total shearing stress on a longitudinal member can be predicted by using the variances of component sea loads and the covariances between these component loads. Exact application of this method is made for a large oil tanker in the North Atlantic Ocean and an approximate long-term correlation method is examined in comparison with the so-called square root met-method.
