NONLINEAR FREE-SURFACE EFFECTS--THE DEPENDENCE ON FROUDE NUMBER

Numerical solutions of the nonlinear problem of two-dimensional finite-depth potential flow past a fixed pressure distribution on a free surface are given. The numerical solutions are compared as far as possible with first-, second-, and third-order perturbation-theory solutions and it is found that the second-order perturbation theory can give accurate solution of this problem for the range of froude numbers investigated.
