MITSUBISHI ECONOMY STEAM TURBINE PLANT

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is promoting two high-efficiency steam-turbine plants, with and without reheat, for ships down to Panamax bulker size, associated with a low propeller speed for higher propulsive efficiency. The reheat plant comprises two or "one-and-a-half" Mitsubishi-Combustion Engineering V2M-8W-LTG boilers of a new design, with the reheater arranged in the gas uptake and five stages of feed heating. The boilers supply steam at 100 kg/sq cm (g) and 530 deg C to the turbine with reheat to 530 deg C. The turbine is of cross-compound type with a mono-casing HP-IP element and double-reduction gearing. The feed pump and generator are driven from the gearing. The non-reheat alternative employs steam at 60 kg/sq cm (g) at 530 deg C, with attached generator and feed pump and four stages of feed heating. Order from BSRA as No. 49,962.
