As part of the AAR's Track/Train Dynamics Program, Phase III, attention is being given to development of a minicomputer for locomotive cab application. Locomotive engineers are to be given information on the function of units under multiple-unit control, train operating conditions, and on-board processing of operational factors. The overall concept is known as the Advanced Locomotive Cab Instrumentation System and will consist of sensors, signal conditioners, multiplexers and de-multiplexers, transmitters, receivers, controls, displays and recorders all based on the minicomputer. Present status of the various elements is discussed.
