AUTOMATIC PLOTTING OF DATA IN HIGHWAY ENGINEERING

AUTOMATISCHES ZEICHNEN IM STRASSENWESEN

Automatic plotters can be used in an on-line system (computer data being processed directly) and in an off-line system (intermediate storage of data on tape or punched cards). Automatic drawing instruments are constructed as drum plotters or as flat tables. With the drum plotter the drawing support runs over rollers; by this means the direction of movement of the drawing head is spared. With the table equipment the drawing head moves in all directions over the drawing support. Equipment now on the market achieves plotting tolerances of 0.01 mm and speeds of 150 cm/sec. Spheres of use extend from the evaluation of ground surveys (terrestrial, photogrammetric, manual) through plotting of layout plans, land registry plans, relief plans, cross-sections, drainage plans to the representation of maintenance stages and traffic flow diagrams. As an example for highway construction administration the range of application is illustrated with reference to the different pieces of equipment, the method of application and the final plots. /TRRL/
