FOOTBRIDGE FOR THE INSPECTION OF ENGINEERING STRUCTURES

PASSERELLE POUR INVESTIGATIONS SUR UN OUVRAGE D'ART

The author describes a semi-fixed footbridge developed for the inspection of parts of a superstructure which have difficult access; its cost is low compared to that of a self-propelled footbridge. Details are given of (1) its advantages: reduction in the number of operators, made-to-measure design, unlimited utilization, possibility of use for structures of similar type, rapid recoupment of outlay, and non-immobilization which is a characteristic of self-propelled footbridges; (2) disadvantages: no height regulation, uneven movement, difficulty in locating a crane for the loading of spans. /TRRL/
