PROBLEMS AND TASKS IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION

PROBLEME UND AUFGABEN DES STRASSENBAUS

The paper marks the occasion of the 23rd International ABG Confernece on 8.3.77 in Munich. A brief look back at the historic development of transportation and the growth of road networks all over the world is followed by statistical proof of the trend towards increasingly greater mobility and improved transportation performance. When considering future developments energy supply is included. Reference is made to research by Forster who conlcuded that the car will maintain its importance in transportation even considering the above aspects. Cars and with them roads are irreplacable for increasing mobility requirements of persons and goods and for expanding new areas economically. The problem remains of bringing new road construction works into line with the increased environmental consciousness of the population. Transportation planning measures are discussed for towns and cities which reduce noise levels and maintain clean air. /TRRL/
