UTILIZATION OF WOVEN MATERIALS IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION

EINSATZ VON TEXTILEN MATERIALIEN IM STRASSENBAU

Conventional construction can be simplified by utilizing synthetic mats, or they can be replaced by more economical construction methods. Examples are shown for employing polyfelt (a continuous synthetic fibre mat) for overcoming soft and water containing subsoil in road construction, rail construction and hydraulic engineering. A cost comparison between a road section of 350 M length and a bog 4.00 M in depth with respect to conventional methods of construction and the utilization of polyfelt shows that the construction method with the fleece is half the cost. The decrease in costs is indirectly proportional to the soil conditions. Settlements have to be accepted; they do not impair the bearing capacity and do not last long. /TRRL/
