POLLUTION OF VERGES BY DE-ICING SALT

BELASTING VAN WEGBERMEN MET WEGENZOUT

The author deals with the results of tests carried out on a site along the A12 motorway in the centre of Holland. Several samples were taken to estimate the pollution caused by road salt, either blown into the verges by cross-winds, or washed by rain from the road surface. Salt concentration in the soil is largely dependent on rain volume and distance from the edge of the road surface. /TRRL/
