School Bus/Refuse Truck Collision, Arlington, Virginia. The N.T.S.B Report

On April 18, 2005, a 52-passenger school bus and a trash truck, headed in opposite directions, collided in Arlington, Virginia. The front left sides of the two vehicles collided and the vehicles sideswiped each other. Two passengers were killed, and the drivers and five passengers were injured. This National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) report summarizes their accident investigation. Based on the NTSB's investigation, the probable cause of the accident was the school bus driver's encroachment into the trash truck's lane and the trash truck's failure to maintain proper lane position, for undetermined reasons.
