COLLAPSE BEHAVIOUR OF RECTANGULAR STEEL BOX GIRDERS

The paper describes a theoretical investigation into the collapse behaviour of the support region of an unstiffened rectangular steel box girder. The results were obtained from a finite element computer program written for the large-deflection elasto-plastic analysis of 3D plate assemblages. Plasticity is treated using Ilyushin's yield criterion. All the analyses account for geometric imperfections. The main part of the work involves the diaphragm-compression flange interaction and excludes parametric variations in the webs. However, some preliminary work is presented on the influence of web thickness. /Author/TRRL/
