PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF AN ICE ACCRETION SYSTEM

Climatic chamber tests of an off-the-shelf ice detection system manufactured by Rosemount Engineering Company were conducted at the Armament Development and Test Center, Eglin AFB, Florida. The purpose of the tests was to determine the feasibility of taking objective observations of ice accretion near the earth's surface. Data was collected for a variety of wind, temperature, and precipitation conditions which simulate natural icing. This paper presents the preliminary results of the tests. /Author/
