ONE-HALF METER STATIONARY MOTORCYCLE NOISE TEST: A SENSITIVITY STUDY

Test procedures in which the motorcycle engine is run with the motorcycle stationary and a microphone located 0.5 m from the exhaust outlet have been proposed. This paper discusses the magnitude of error resulting from variations in various test parameters. Parameters investigated were: distance from microphone to exhaust outlet, azimuth and elevation of microphone position; microphone orientation; engine test rpm, effect of an observer in the immediate area; and different rider positions.
