EFFECTS OF FREEWAY NOISE ON HEARING LEVELS AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF CHILDREN -- PREVIEW OF A STUDY

The California Office of Noise Control in conjunction with the California Department of Transportation, with funding assistance from FHWA, is studying the effects of environmental noise on the hearing levels and academic achievement of elementary school children in California. This paper presents the results of the pilot study that instigated this major investigation, and summarizes the study plan.
