EFFECTS OF URBAN TRAFFIC CONTROL STRATEGIES ON FUEL CONSUMPTION

Computer simulations were conducted in the study described to determine the effects of various traffic control techniques on vehicular fuel consumption. An objective was to identify the relationship between fuel consumption and other traditional traffic engineering measures of effectiveness to enable local governments and planning agencies to evaluate the effects of other strategies on energy usage and guide them in selecting alternative traffic control techniques.
