Motorway asset management in a few clicks

Autoroutes du Sud de la France (ASF) operates the largest French toll motorway network, totalling more than 2566 km. In order to optimize the management of such an asset, ASF has developed and set up different computer tools in close link to users in the field. Among these tools, a WEB application, called WEBSIGAL, allows all those who are involved in the company to have access to the asset data and their geographic position. It permits so to visualize all data on a cartographic background (from 1/100 000 to 1/1000 scale) on the whole network, to have access to their features through predefined requests and thus, to obtain a global vision of the asset. In its working principles, WEBSIGAL is linked to different technical data bases, used by a public of experts, that allow to inform different objects features and to manage their follow-up: ARGUSBASE is the application relative to pavement. Running in client-server mode, it allows to stock and to make restitution of all necessary data to know the road surface condition. All pavement structures and maintenance works since origin (ones date from 1950) and condition surveys measures are informed. GOA, information system used since 1994 includes the description of all civil engineering structures and the follow-up and schedule of inspections and maintenance operations. Complementary, a nomadic appliance is used to realize detailed inspections, according to the IQOA French method and the results are automatically integrated into the base with the calculation of a mark. PPHM permits to manage the follow-up of major traffic signs. Used since 2005, the application is used to plan inspections, to integrate and to exploit results in a notation form. SIGAL is the ASF geographic information system that has been set up in 2002. Different objects of the asset (traffic signs, buildings, safety fences…) can be informed on a cartographic background. SIGAL is also connected to all the technical data bases described previously. Thus, the article will describe the organization used to the asset management with the help of these computerized tolls and their interaction in a global process including the heritage inventory, the follow-up, the notation and index calculation and finally the projects planning (A).
