FOUNDATION STABILITY ON NONHOMOGENEOUS CLAYS

Problems are noted in the stability analysis studies of gravity structures under transient earthquake loadings. The failure mechanism for a strip footing under inclined centric load on homogeneous clay is discussed, as well as the eccentric inclined loads on offshore gravity structures under earthquake transient loadings. Stability charts constructed for transient loading conditions for soils with undrained shear strength are described. Comments are made on the analysis of the layered strength profile.
