MARITIME TRANSPORTATION BY TUG-BARGE COMBINATIONS WITH RIGID AND NON-RIGID CONNECTIONS

TRANSPORTE MARITIMO POR MEDIO DE CONJUNTOS BARCAZA-REMOLCADOR CON SISTEMAS DE CONEXION RIGIDA Y NO RIGIDA

This paper describes briefly some of the most significant types of tug-barge combinations. Rigid connections (ITB), as well as connections with varying degrees of freedom, are discussed. Claimed advantages and drawbacks, technical and economical, of tug-barge combinations, relative to comparable conventional vessels, are mentioned. Basic philosophy of design review for classification purposes is discussed, as tug-barge combinations present novel features which have to be specially considered.
