SHIP RESEARCH IN WAVES

To design LNG carriers, it is important to know ship responses in waves such as ship motions, accelerations due to ship motions, forces and moments on the ship hull. A strip method is generally made use of in the calculation of ship responses in regular waves. Recently, the calculation of statistical parameters of ship responses in irregular waves is made using a wave spectrum and the response amplitude operator of the ship. Moreover, the probability of exceeding a certain value of responses is predicted for a long term operation and sometimes for the lifetime of the ship. In this paper, an outline is described of calculation methods of ship responses and those of short term and long term predictions of them.
