A tanker specifically designed and built to transport oil from the Stratfjord Field to Norway is the 127,700 tdw Polytrader recently completed. In Polytrader's stem is an assymetric cutout, the purpose of which is to provide a groove to guide the platform's hose and coupling into position to connect up with the vessel's hydraulic coupling device. Immediately aft of the cutout in the stem is the vessel's hose connection firmly positioned at the end of a permanent pipeline leading from the midships loading lines. The connection piece consists of two 400 mm hydraulically maneuvered couplings which can be swung out over the bow for connection to the platform's hose couplings from their stowed position inboard. A specially constructed 30 ton hose winch has been provided on the forecastle head to serve the hose and coupling equipment.
