GRAIN -- EUROPOORT FACILITY CUTS ROTTERDAM WAITING TIME

The most significant grain handling development in the Benelux range of ports in recent months has been the opening of Grain Elevator Maatschappij's new Europoort deep water facility. With the improved service the port can now offer, Rotterdam is looking to increase its share of the European grain handling market. GEM has constructed three berths with an outside berthing length of 600 m capable of accommodating two 200,000 dwt vessels simultaneously with further space for a 150,000 dwt vessel on the inside of the berth. The article discusses design and engineering of the facility, and terminal equipment installed there.
