Evaluating Truck Turn Time in Grounded Operations Using Simulation

Simulation model development techniques for marine container terminals using Arena are presented. Concepts are illustrated using the Port of Houston's Barbours Cut Container Terminal (BCT) models and there is subsequent discussion of how one of the many operational questions BCT management had can be answered by the model-the number of yard cranes needed for truck turn time reduction to a desirable level. This research demonstrates that Arena can be used for all aspects of container terminal operations modeling, including precise movements, in grounded operations, of trucks and cranes.
