Egypt differs markedly from most Arab Middle East nations in that it possesses a large indigenous population and does not have substantial oil revenues. Its need for modern port facilities is thus very different from its Arab neighbours' requirements and futher its financial capability to construct berths and purchase equipment is more limited.
