Many train operating companies in the UK have started to offer wi-fi on their trains. This article highlights findings from a recent survey of business and leisure passengers on their awareness and use of the wireless technology. Findings showed that 30% of respondents were aware of wi-fi, were planning to use it or had used it on the train, indicating a good level of awareness. The main reason given for not using wi-fi on the train was not having a laptop. About 40% of travelers stated that they did not need to use the service on this particular journey. Most respondents indicated that they preferred traveling by train rather than air, and very few would switch away from the train because of improved communication methods in flight. These findings suggest that onboard wi-fi is an enhancement to existing passenger service.
