VISUAL FLIGHT SIMULATOR FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF THE LEARNING PROCESSES DURING AIRCRAFT LANDING

EIN SICHTSIMULATOR XUR UNTERSUCHUNG DES LERNVORGANGS BEI DER FLUGZEUGLANDUNG

A pilot must acquire two main abilities in order to land his airplane successfully: at first he has to estimate his height above ground correctly from the outside visual cues; on the other hand, he must practice to successfully govern the dynamic reactions of the airplane. In this paper a visual flight simulation device is described which allows to train these two skills separately. In a side-view simulator pilots can get familiar with the dynamic properties of the airplane without the problem of height estimation; in a runway simulator the correct wide-angle perspective view of a runway during final approach and landing is projected and faces the pilot with the actual situation.
