The problem of quality assurance in aircraft manufacture is examined with emphasis on establishing a conjunction between the geometric and physico-mechanical functional parameters and the technological factors in the machining of parts by removing the allowance layer from the surface. The allowance is examined from two aspects: as a design quantity and as a random quantity. This makes it possible to refine the structural formulas for the allowance and the calculation of the operational dimensions. Considerable attention is devoted to the question of allowance nonuniformity as a characteristic determining article quality.
