MACROSCOPIC SIMULATION MODELS FOR USE IN TRAFFIC SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT. ABRIDGMENT

Because the microscopic NETSIM model is too costly for testing traffic systems management strategies on networks larger than 40-50 intersections, three existing macroscopic network models (TRAS, TRANSIT, and SIGOP-II) which do not truck individual vehicles were executed on a network in Washington, D.C., for which both input and measures of effectiveness (MOE) data were avaialble. The MOE average speed computed by these models was then compared with field data and a NETSIM sum of the same network.
