National Transportation Safety Board Safety Recommendation: H-06-17

This safety recommendation, addressed to Mr. Warren E. Hoemann, Acting Administrator, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), addresses FMCSA's process for monitoring passenger carriers that have lost operating authority to verify that they are no longer providing for-hire interstate charter services to the public. The recommendation is derived from the National Transportation Safety Board's (NTSB's) investigation of the October 1, 2003, multivehicle collision on the approach to the Hampshire–Marengo toll plaza near Hampshire, Illinois. The NTSB makes the following recommendation to the FMCSA: (H-06-17) Establish a program to verify that motor carriers have ceased operations after the effective date of revocation of operating authority.
