INFILTRATION DRAINS IN ROAD CONSTRUCTION

For the stability of roads drainage of the top construction as well as of the sub-construction by way of drainage pipes allowing infiltration is essential. Initially various forms of water in the soil are treated, such as surface water, leakage water, static water, water between layers, capillary water, condensation and ground water. The permeability of various soil types is described also. Further, the action of various water infiltration drains and embankment filters is investigated. The author has carried out experiments with perforated drainage pipes made from concrete and plastics (as well as full and also partially perforated drainage pipes) in his laboratory and he publishes his results. He refers also to the information sheet for the drainage of roads of the FGST. The fully perforated drainage pipe produces the largest yield (1/sm). Tables and graphs give exact details. /TRRL/
