Northern Way - North-South connections report

Links to World City functions in London are of fundamental importance to Northern productivity. Over time these north-south links will become more important to the Northern economy. The road and rail networks linking the North with the South have to accommodate growing volumes of freight and numbers of commuters. As demand grows important business traffic could be squeezed out, and this is a risk factor for the North's economy. This document comprises chapters as follows: Introduction; The importance of links to London; Current and future capacity constraints on the existing network; A long-term strategy: alternative approaches; and conclusions.
