EXPERIENCES WITH THE SLIDING CUTTER FORM OF CONSTRUCTION

ERFAHRUNGEN MIT DEM GLEITENDEN MESSERVERBAU

The sliding cutter form of construction is a newly developed technique for securing the open sides of excavation in open cut tunnelling. Its advantages lie in the shortness of the excavation pit required, the low material requirements and reduced noise levels because of the elimination of pile driving. The groundwater lowering can be restricted to the smallest possible area. Ground movements are less than with comparable open cut techniques, as the excavated material can immediately be partly re-used for filling. /TRRL/
