THE BEHAVIOUR AND DESIGN OF STEEL STRUCTURES

The purpose of this book is to promote the understanding of the behaviour of steel structures by summarizing the present state of knowledge, and to facilitate design by relating this behaviour to the criteria adopted for design. All fundamentals of steel structures are considered: behaviour under differing kinds of loads, material properties, the effects of torsion, tension, compression, and bending, and the modifying influences of buckling. Most of the material is presented in a non-dimensional format so that it can be used with any system of units. Where units are used the book follows the S.I. System. There are many worked examples illustrating the behaviour of steel structures and wherever codes of practice are concerned the book gives equal weight to the American, Australian and the UK provisions. /TRRL/
