EXPERIMENTAL TESTS OF LOAD-CARRYING CAPACITY OF HATCH COVERS

Results are given of full-scale tests on hatch covers with the following dimensions: span 12,290 mm, width 2,935 mm, depth at midspan 5326 mm. The covers conformed to the requirements of the Polish Register of Shipping. The results prove that the load-carrying capacity of hatch covers depends mainly on the compressive stresses in the plating. These are, in turn, governed by the slenderness ratio of the compressed plating. Order from BSRA as No. 49,760.
