EXTREME WAVE HEIGHTS IN THE GULF OF ALASKA

Extreme wave heights due to severe extratropical storms have been estimated for three deep water locations in the "Gulf of Alaska". The estimates are based on hindcasts of the wave climatology for the entire "North Pacific Ocean". Wave statistics were complied for a thirteen year period from 1964 to 1977. An analysis of these statistics yielded extreme wave height as a function of return period. The results comfirm the severe winter wave climate of the Gulf of Alaska, and may be used for design wave estimation for offshore structures. Order from NSFI as No. 196367.
