ESTIMATION OF MANOEUVRING PERFORMANCE FOR FULL-SCALE SHIPS (REPORT NO, 2)

Computer simulation and simulator study based on mathematical models (equations of manoeuvring motions) are effective for estimating a wide range of manoeuvring performance. The mathematical model used should accurately express the wide-range manoeuvring motion of full-scale ships. The accuracy of a mathematical model, introduced in a previous Report, for expressing wide-range manoeuvring motions such as turning and acceleration motions is here verified for these motions by comparing the computer-simulated paths with those determined in full-scale trials (including crash stops).
