DRYING SHRINKAGE AND MOVEMENT OF REINFORCED CONCRETE

Results are given of an investigation into the influence of symmetrically placed reinforcement upon the drying shrinkage behaviour of a range of concretes. It is shown that the influence of reinforcement upon concrete shrinkage may be described by using a simple effective elastic modulus approach. From the experimental data, predictions are made of the long-term movement of some simple structural members. It is shown that the predicted curvature produced by shrinkage of a partially cracked concrete beam is significantly higher than that predicted by the cp 110 method. /Author/TRRL/
