COMBINED STRENGTH PATTERN OF THIN-WALLED BOX GIRDERS IN TORSION

In this paper the theory of torsion of thin-walled box girders is extended to the general case of combined torsion by taking also into account the effects of the shear deformations. The purpose of the paper is to formulate mathematically the mechanical phenomenon of combined torsion for the engineering practice as well as to demonstrate the application of the formulae presented in the framework of a numerical example. In addition, besides the more familiar procedures, the significance of the secondary shear deformation is emphasized in the paper. /TRRL/
