SAGGING HIGHWAY BRIDGE JACKED UP WITHOUT INTERRUPTION TO TRAFFIC

Reconstruction of the 72-ft-wide bridge, carrying a state highway over Interstate 71 at Ashland, Ohio, which has a total length of 336 ft spread over four spans is described. Each of the three pairs separating the spans consists of three individual bents of three columns each. The sequence of operations called for repairing the failed abutment and correcting the differential settlement in the slump area before lifting the entire structure up as a unit.
