REUSE OF BROKEN UP BITUMINOUS PAVING MATERIAL

HERGEBRUIK VAN OPGEBROKEN ASFALTVERHARDINGSMATERIAAL

Definitions of some concepts relating to the reuse of asphalt are given. Recycling methods are classed in two categories: hot procedures and cold procedures. Three hot recycling methods, known as regeneration, are discussed: heating the asphalt in a common rotary drum or a drum mixer, indirect heating in a special drum, and mixing the asphalt with preheated additional aggregate in a common mixing plant. Likewise three cold recycling methods are described: use as such for unbound roadbase material, use for emulsion-bound material, and cement stabilization of a mixture of broken asphalt and sand. Tests on experimental sections of road are described, economic aspects are discussed and conclusions are drawn. /TRRL/
