APPLICATION OF THEORY IN THE OPTIMIZATION OF THE PROPULSION CONFIGURATION OF A SINGLE-SCREW CONTAINER SHIP

Results are given of a theoretical study on the effect of the number of blades, the tip clearance and the diameter of a propeller on the vibration-exciting, propeller-induced pressures on the hull. It was found that both a change in the number of blades and a reduction in the diameter of the propeller, for this particular case, are sufficient measures to decrease the vibration-exciting forces caused by the propeller.
