FULL PROGRAM CONTROLS BIRDS IN PORTLAND, OREGON

This article concerns the means employed at the Portland International Airport (PIA) in Oregon to discourage the nesting of birds on the runways by eliminating sources of food which would attract them. These include the use of closed containers for waste storage, rodent control, preventing earthworms from crawling on runways during rainstorms, and discouraging the cultivation of fruit- and seed-bearing crops near the airport.
