T2 - Transforming Dublin Airport

Now in its third year, the 'Transforming Dublin Airport' program is continuing to build a new 75,000 square meter passenger terminal (T2) at an estimated cost of (Euros) 2 billion. This article describes how the project is taking shape, including new developments in passenger check-in, search area, departure lounges, and gate rooms. The article discusses the difficulties faced in building a major new facility in a busy airport environment. Special consideration is given to ensure that the construction process does not intrude on airport traffic, especially during Dublin's summer travel season. Estimates are for 100,000 passengers per day to use the airport during the peak of the season. On an average day, 60,000 passengers use the airport, which is considered to be one of the fastest growing in Europe. The new T2 terminal is scheduled to open in April 2010.
