MAINTAINING A HIGH PRODUCTIVITY RATE WHEN HANDLING DIFFERENT TYPES OF RO-RO CARGOES

The 10 Ro-Ro facilities at the port of Hamburg are described under the headings:- "Short Sea Trade: United Kingdom-Continent", which covers the Dalmannkai and Kaiserkai; "Short Sea Trade: Russia" and "Deep Sea Trade" for which special berths have been constructed at H.H.L.A. Terminal Burchardkai. Within each of these sections are descriptions of the types of vessels using the facilities and the types of ramp, for which the relevant dimensions are given. The operations of each section are discussed under the heading:-Prestowage, Discharging Loading and Productivity. He also lists the number of dockers working each ship. Under the paragraph on Operations in the Deep Sea Trade category, additional information is given on Ro-Ro goods and containers. Specific Ro-Ro Trades and future developments and trends in shipping are also examined.
