In a prefatory note (by J. Brix) to this text of the new manoeuvring-trials code of the International Towing Tank Conference, which is being published in the various languages of the member countries, it is stated that the Code is intended to provide guidelines and recommendations for international standards in conducting model and full-scale manoeuvring tests, and that it represents inter alia a first step towards achieving authoritative data for describing a ship's manoeuvring characteristics. The Code is arranged under the main headings: 1. Introduction. 2. Existing Codes and Recommendations. 3. The ITTC 1975 Manoeuvring-Trial Code. 4. Test Procedures (1--Turning circles. 2--Pull-out. 3--Turning trials from zero speed. 4--Zigzag manoeuvre. 5--Direct and reverse spiral tests. 6--Change of heading. 7--Stopping trials. 8--Lateral thruster tests). 5. Test Conditions (1--Ship load conditions. 2--Water depth. 3--Weather conditions). 6. Recording Requirements. Order from BSRA as No. 49,427.
