Active Air-Suspension Design for Transit Buses

Designing a robust active suspension capable of handling the combination of suspension characteristics' preload-dependent variation and vehicle model parameter uncertainty is the study goal. Since there is often trip to trip variation in transit bus loading conditions, active suspension system robustness with respect to uncertainty in model parameter becomes especially important. There is a two part study effort: one is non-linear air-spring model development based on experimental data; the other is sliding mode controller development for improved suspension system performance, more specifically, ride quality.
