Trawlers, tugs, and push boats with fixed-pitch propellers usually have 25/30% higher horsepower installed than if a c.p. propeller system were used. The disadvantages connected with the latter have been overcome by Newage Engineers with the two-pitch propeller system, the use of which can lead to savings in fuel costs. There are two types of these mechanically adjustable propellers: one allows the pitch of the propeller to be adjusted inboard at the tailshaft half coupling, and the other comprises a propeller hub with adjustable blades, mounted on a solid propeller shaft. Order from BSRA as No. 49,482.
