MODERN BARGE-TOWING TUGBOAT (STORM WAVE)

The tugboat Storm Wave recently entered service with Egmont Towing & Sorting Ltd for coastal barge towing. Her principal particulars are: Length, o.a=19.44m, w.l.=18.9m; Breadth,mld=6.86; Depth,mld=3.68m; Gross tonnage=97.94; Main engines=2 x 480-bhp at 1,800 rpm; Speed=10knots; Classification=Canadian Coast Guard; Hometrade III. The two Caterpillar D346 Diesel engines each drive a three-bladed propeller through a Twin Disc MG527 reverse-reduction gearbox with a ratio of 5.17 to 1. Attention is drawn to the spacious wheelhouse with good all-round visibility, the single funnel place directly behind the wheelhouse to avoid damage from barges, the waste tank for dirty oil, and the fendering arrangements. General-arrangements drawings and a list of suppliers are included, and many of the items of equipment are described. Order from BSRA as No. 49,384.
