ENERGY DEMAND AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN GERMAN TRANSPORT

After describing the development of primary energy demand, the conversion to final energy, and the covering of remaining requirements by imports in the period between 1973 and 1974, the article deals with developments in energy consumption in the four modes of transport, and the different technical conditions of road and rail transport. Special consideration is given to the results of the changes in the DB's motive power services, including the reduction in pollution by the elimination of harmful emissions and the substantial drop in energy demand with simultaneous increase in transport performance.
